Railroad Spike

This vintage railroad spike was covered in stains and dirty rust. However, with patience – and, extensive sanding and scrubbing – my 90 year old father brought back its luster and shine.

Everyone who saw it was impressed and extended to him their compliments, which, in addition to his underlying, restorative interests, led to a search for additional items.

So, along with lunch and a few other stops, we set out on Father’s Day to walk the tracks of an old, unused railroad. Some time later, we emerged from the forest with several more spikes, all of which were soaking in vinegar by sunset that evening.

If you’d be interested in a print for your home or office, these photographs are available in my gallery, with several options to choose from.

Thanks very much!
