Knowing in advance that the area was seasonally dry, I nevertheless hiked up a small mountainside to Paine Creek Falls, located near the Laurel-Snow Trail, in Dayton, Tennessee. It’s off the beaten trail – in fact, I’ve never seen any hikers during my several visits to this remote spot – and, it turned out to be an interesting time, walking through an empty creek bed.
