Descriptions
[1] It’s dry season on Morgan Creek, with mostly shallow water stirring in the breeze to create rippled reflections of the forest and sky, as seen while hiking during autumn in Dayton, Tennessee.
[2] Black and white photograph featuring a boulder with a large hole bored into it.
This natural phenomenon is common, occurring over a long period of time, as smaller stones become trapped within the crevice of a larger rock. River currents cause the stones to swirl within that space, eventually wearing down the larger rock, creating a hole.
Spending time hiking along various rivers, creeks and waterfalls, I’ve seen many examples of these rocks with holes.
[3] Hiking within the mostly dry riverbed of Morgan Creek, I had an opportunity to see interesting geological structures along the gorge. And, I also found a bridge for a trail which I had not previously been aware.
