This close-up photograph of a Rhododendron was shot while hiking along Thunderhead Prong Quiet Walkway. These particular flowering plant grows tall, with incredibly strong trunks and limbs, ideal as handholds while traversing slippery hillsides. In the Smoky Mountains, Rhododendrons are everywhere.
