I looked at my watch and realized that it was time to go, 6:05 a.m., so I filled my water bottle, grabbed my camera and hopped on my bike for a short three mile ride to the Huron Parkway. At 50 degrees fahrenheit, the path was quiet this morning, sparse with people exercising early to begin the day. Wishing I had dressed more warmly, I rode to the top of the bridge overlooking the Huron River and faced east to wait for the sun to rise above a tree covered hillside across the water…

Having driven across this bridge many times before, I’d always thought that the location would be conducive for sunrise photography. Finally, I was here, albeit ten minutes early. The photograph featured above is the first picture I took. Here are a few more pictures taken from the bridge:

On my bike again, I rode further along the Huron River through Gallup Park, the most popular recreation area in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

I stopped at this spot – X – to look back at the bridge on the Huron Parkway (see below). In the distance to the right are the University of Michigan Hospital, and the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, respectively.

I continued on until I could see Concordia University across the river, pictured below with some other photographs which I took along the ride heading home:
