After enjoying an elevated view of blue skies and the Smoky Mountains from the Foothills Parkway, I proceeded down the mountain approx. 20 miles to Cades Cove for a scenic drive, where there’s an 11-mile loop around the valley. Once there, it was only a few miles before the weather turned sour, bringing rain which lasted 5 minutes. However, after driving only a few more miles, the area once again had blue skies over head (see below). Go figure.
