Poem

With a powerful winter storm sweeping across the United States, I wrote this poem in collaboration with my close friend, the lovely and very talented Penny Granger.

Storms, they say
May sometimes stray
From the start, changing course randomly

Strong winds blow
As heavy snow
Captivates, blanketing all we see

Other times
In harsher climes
Finds the rain freezing cold, snapping trees

Power gone
It won’t be long
‘Til nature brings cities to their knees

Don’t be late
Anticipate
Stock up now with your goods for the storm

Hunker down
In your hometown
Spark a fire, sharing love to keep warm

Here are a few shots from the snow-ice storm, yesterday. Fortunately, electricity was restored within 12 hours, at 2:30 pm CMT. Today, wind chills on the mountain where I live are 0-degrees Fahrenheit…brrr!!!

A wonderfully descriptive sharing of the desolation that can be caused so quickly by nature, … and ‘twas a pleasure to collaborate my darling man, … though I feel the bulk of the poem was your own brilliant idea,… it’s fantastic we both have the same enthusiasm for poetic form, and to find a true connection, … possano le parole poetiche fluire per sempre tra noi, amore mio, …❤️

Ah, my darling lady and Poetess extraordinaire, sharing time and words with you is a happy, warming influence in my life that always uplifts my spirit and brightens my day, amore mio. Your contribution to our poetry was integral, and I appreciate you more than you know. Sì, che possa scorrere liberamente, per sempre… ❤️

Yes, I like it, my friend. The storm’s power and we, humans, against it.

Wonderful poem, Phil. That winter storm was terrible this past weekend. We are still dealing with temperatures in the negatives here in Illinois.

Thanks, Edward. A terrible storm, indeed. We were without power for 12 hours, brutally cold with thick ice everywhere and mountain roads impassible. Fortunately, most of us have propane tanks with gas fireplaces. Stay safe! 🙏

You’re welcome, Phil. We lost power in the area, but it wasn’t as bad as it was in your area. Yes, gas fireplaces are a lifesaver. It’s still windy, and it currently feels like -5, but the forecast looks promising starting next week. Thank you.

I hope the worst of the storm is over and you can warm up Phil, the snow is beautiful, but…too cold!❄
