I wrote this poem for my close friend, Penny Granger. After celebrating her recent birthday (age undisclosed), we reminisced about some of her happy childhood memories, inspiring me to share these words…
In the northern town named Darlington
Neath the moon lit summer skies
Lived a girl most happily, Penny
One with love-light in her eyes
Into town, or to the park
Round the corner, heading home
It didn’t matter where she was
Only that her joy might roam
Butterflies and puppy dogs
Ice cream cones and family
Old men with beards, or satellites
In the sky, something to see
As memories now flood through the years
Pleasant thoughts are filled with light
It’s never too late to dream out loud
Rest your head, welcome the night
Sweet dreams to you, my baby
Close you eyes and draw me near
When you wake to greet the sun
Evermore, you’ll find me here
