I shot this photograph of Big Laurel Falls using my zoom lens from the other side of a large cave. Located in the Virgin Falls State Park, near Sparta, Tennessee, the waterfall stands 40-feet tall. You can enjoy fine prints and more when you visit any of the following galleries:

Glorious!! Oh, Phil, it’s incredible. The rocks! In the foreground there’s a rock that looks like it has groves in it. Like a fossil? Wow. The waterfall seems so gentle, a hint of the power behind it. Truly amazing image! 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you, my dear friend Robin! Funny you should ask about that rock which looks like a fossil. While making my way over and around these quite slippery rocks, seeking to avoid injury from falling (it happens), I only observed that rock once at home, while examining the photographs on my computer. In retrospect, I think so. Have a great day! 🤗🌹

Cool breeze, dear Robin! Also, I believe I’ve discerned that the (original ref.) rock with grooves may not be a fossil, after all. I’ve observed other similar markings on rocks below different waterfalls. I think these grooves represent the progress of water over millennia working its way through to erode the rocks. With each instance of increased destabilization of any given rock-slab, additional water works into the process, adding grooves. Well, that’s my take anyway.
