Flashback to Winter

On the morning of January 1, 2008, I awoke to discover that approx. 10″ of snow had fallen during a blizzard overnight! With winter boots, extra layers of clothing, and my first digital camera (a basic 5MP Kodak), I set out on an adventure to take pictures and leaves tracks.

Living in Ann Arbor, Michigan, at the time, I walked outside, across Huron River, around the University of Michigan Hospital, and then along the river once again, until I reached Nichols Arboretum. Pictured here is a snow-covered bench atop one of many hillsides in the park.

See prints here. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. This is such a breathtaking shot Phil. It’s so magical that it doesn’t seem real. We won’t see such a sight in our neck of the woods like that any time soon. I think 2008 was around the last time we saw any type of significant snowfall like this in our area. 🥶 Thanks so much for sharing your glance back in time my Poetic Master Photographer! 🤗🥂😘📸🍯

    1. I’m so glad you like it, sweet Poetess Kym, and I appreciate your kind words. 🍯💖 It was a wonderful sight to see, indeed, with snow covering both rolling hills and forests, alike. Wishing you a great day, my dear friend & Cheers! 🤗🥂✨😘

  7. Stunning hike and burr. Only a photographer can brave the storm to capture the essence of beautiful in present time. I’m impressed!

And now a poem to you for all the poems you write to all of us dear Phil:

    ❤️

Braving the storm for a captured shot,
breathing steam of cream in my coffee,
tracing steps where no one has trod this day.
A bench for two warmed many times before,
now blanketed by a white coat.
I carve my name and yours marking the day with a snap shot
in my mind and heart and now one I can share with the world as I click.
I mark a time in history to come back to when the sun comes up
melting memories to warm my soul and bring me close to you.

    ❤️

    1. Oh, my goodness dearest Cindy! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful creativity! I love your poetry, my dear friend, and wish I could jump through my computer screen right now to shower you with warm kindness in return. You’ve brightened my day with a tremendous treat, and I’m so honored you would take the time to share of yourself in this way. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your poetry, kindness, love and friendship. You’re truly a treasure, Cindy, and I appreciate you very much. Sending much love, Phil ❤️

      1. Oh, this is such a kind response, and I am so delighted that I took a minute to allow some words of reflections from your image to pop through the page just as I’m popping through the screen to meet you and give you a big hug my friend! It’s the least I could do to you with the gifts you shower us with! Maybe you should do a prompt picture, but I think that’s very time-consuming and I know for me it wouldn’t work out. You are so welcome! Keep climbing those mountains and gifting us with your treasured photography. Have a wonderful weekend my friend. 💕

        1. Good morning, dear Cindy. I would have responded sooner, but only just now found your comment in my spam folder?! Why that happens remains a mystery. What I can say is that you are such a sweet heart, and that your positive note for the rhythm of the day sounds good to me. Wishing for you the same, my friend ~ thank you. 💕
